How to Edit and Sign a PDF: Annotate, Draw, and Sign Online

You don't need Acrobat to add a signature, mark up a contract, or fill in a form field. idlPDF's Edit & Sign tool lets you write text, draw freely, add a hand-drawn signature, and select areas, all in your browser, with full undo and per-element controls.

Why use this tool

  • Sign contracts and forms without printing or scanning.
  • Add comments and corrections during a review cycle.
  • Highlight or box important sections before sharing.
  • Fill in fields on PDFs that aren't fillable forms.

Step-by-step guide

  1. 1

Open the Edit & Sign tool and load your PDF

Drop your PDF onto the upload area. The first page renders in the editor with the toolbar above it.

  2. 2

Pick a tool from the toolbar

Choose Text to type, Draw for freehand strokes, Eraser to clear ink, Signature to draw your signature once and stamp it, Select to highlight an area, or Move to reposition anything you've added.

  3. 3

    Adjust color and size

When Text or Draw is active, the color swatches and size slider appear. Pick a color or open the picker for a custom hex value, and drag the slider to set font size or pencil thickness.

  4. 4

Place your changes on the page

Click anywhere to drop text, drag to draw or select, and click a stamped signature to reposition it. A small ✕ appears on each item, click it to delete.

  5. 5

    Navigate pages and save

Use Prev / Next to move between pages. When you're done, click Save PDF and the edited document downloads as a new file.

Tips for best results

  • Draw your signature once with a clean stroke. idlPDF reuses it whenever you click on the page in Signature mode.
  • Switch to Move mode if you accidentally placed text in the wrong spot. Click the ✕ on the corner to remove items.
  • Use undo (↶) and redo (↷) generously. Every annotation step is tracked.

Frequently asked questions

Can I edit existing text in the PDF?

idlPDF adds new text on top of the page rather than editing the original layer. This is the right approach for forms, signatures, and comments. To rewrite original copy, you'd need source-file access.

Will my signature look the same on every page?

Yes. Once you draw it, the same signature image is reused. Resize it after placing if you need it bigger or smaller.

Are my edits saved if I refresh the page?

No. Editing happens entirely in memory for privacy. Click Save PDF before closing the tab.

Ready to try it?

Open the tool and follow the steps above. No signup, no upload, no watermark.
